Bristan N 1/2 C CD 1901 Basin Pillar Taps : Quality, great for arthritis sufferers!

Excellent quality – good deal.

So far the bristan taps have cured both problems and seem to be fine. . These taps replaced two i had put in in january this year, the hot tap of which was causing ‘waterhammer’ and brown water to run out at the beginning of each flow. So far the bristan taps have cured both problems and seem to be fine. Here are the specifications for the Bristan N 1/2 C CD 1901 Basin Pillar Taps:

  • Operates on a minimum operating pressure of 0.2 bar, maximum of 8.0 bar.
  • Metal cross head handles.
  • 1/4 Turn, 1/2 ” Ceramic Disk Valves.
  • Flow rate – 25.16 litres per minute @ 0.5 bar pressure.
  • Suitable for all plumbing systems within specified operating pressures.
  • Inlet connections 1/2 ” BSP.

Quality, great for arthritis sufferers. As easy to fit as taps of the same type. The retaining nut that goes under the sink for the tap to screw into is not plastic, so i re-used the plastic ones from the old taps as i think they will grip better on a ceramic sink. The taps open only a quarter turn and is very light to the touch – lovely as i i have arthritic wrists. I was surprised at how much water flows out so soon after turning the handle a little, so i will have to get used to opening the taps only slightly to get the flow required. One thing i haven’t checked before writing this review is how readily available and the cost of replacement ceramic disc valves. I like to have a spare set already so that i am prepared for the time a replacement is needed in the future years. Will be interested to read about others findings. One other thing, the shroud is easy to remove and get the main guts holding the ceramic disc valve cartridge mechanism out. If like me you live in the southern half of the uk then the hard water will cause a build up of limescale.

Excellent quality and a nice on/off action.

  1. There are cheaper alternatives; but don’t bother. Pay a little extra for the best.

  2. Great quality, looks and feels far superior to the ones i replaced. Was informed the delivery time would be 5 – 6 days, flabbergasted when they arrived 22 hours after ordering.

    1. Excellent taps, very good flow rate from a low. Excellent taps, very good flow rate from a low pressure gravity-fed system, despite being ceramic disc taps. I did get onto bristan about this as these taps were originally compression valves and i wanted them to clarify the flow rates. I’ve bought bristan taps before and been impressed and they also give flow-rate data on their website unlike most other manufacturers as far as i could tell. I bought both bath and basin taps and would say the same about both – they give at least as good, if not better, flow rates than the old (compression) ones (not bristan) that they replaced. They feel solid and well-built and operate very smoothly and easily. They have a traditional look, but the quarter turn valves give them a modern feel.

These ceramic disc taps are far superior to our earlier compression valve type.

These taps are very nicely made, but they lack some important information in their specifications. I bought them because we have an old bathroom sink with square tap holes. These bristan taps have a boss at the bottom, where they fit atop the sink, of 50mm diameter, very generous, easily enough to cover the corners of the sink squares, where water can tend to leak through to the floor. However, this information was not available in the specification, either on amazon, or on the bristan website. Just one rubber washer is included, of only 40mm diameter. It must therefore be intended that this be fitted underneath the retaining nut. There is no 50mm rubber washer supplied to fit between the tap boss and the sink, which means the metal boss will be clamped directly onto the hard basin surface, not very good engineering practice, i feel, metal-to-enamel – and possibly leading to water leaks (unless something like ‘plumbers mait’ is used). A ‘buffer’ is needed, in my opinion. It will be seen from the photos that there are two hexagonal shapes on the top part of the tap assembly, which look as though they are functional nuts.

Lovely taps, really good value for money. I like the way they turn on and off. Would definitely recommend them.
