Plumb Pak Plumb-Pak Replacement Tap Top Acrylic pair, Don’t forget the top fitting screw!
Don’t forget the top fitting screw. Tap heads are fine but they don’t come with the top screws which hold the plastic outer part in place. It is assumed your old taps had these screws and that the screws can be re-used. In most cases i’m sure this is so, but in my case i had to go out and buy two screws. Another slight niggle is that the grub screws easily mash, so watch out when tightening these.
Dimensions of headdiameter: 55mmheight: 40mm (extendable to 60mm using the sliding grey plastic insert (internal diameter 30mm). It looks kind of bad extended unless you happen to have a grey plastic taps. . You could cover it in silver tape/paint, maybe, like i did. )max spline diameter accepted: 9mm. Distance from the top of the spline to the bottom of the unextended head: 27mm. If your spline is the type that has the head sit on loose, then this head will sit on so loose it will accidentally lift off when you use the tap sometimes. I fixed it with a little double-sided tape – looks fine as it cannot be seen. Note to plumb-pak numpty: when amazon asks you for the dimensions, don’t give the size of the cardboard box they come in. Better than expected – just like ronseal ‘does what it says on the tin’ – excellent.
Did what it said on the tin. I did put some thread lock on the grub screws – and like other reviewers screwed the fixing screw down before tightening the grub screws so that all sides were equal.
Works great, easy to install. Needed a quick replacement as one of the bathroom taps was unable to grip the worn down spindle. This has done the job well and was a easy install. Installation is simple enough; after removing your old tap tops, simply place the hexagonal shaped part (sorry, don’t know what it’s suppose to be called) over the tap spindle and secure it to the spindle using the grub screws supplied with the alan key provided. Be careful not to lose any of the grub screws there are only 6, three for each tap and you could quite easy drop one down the sinkhole. Then take the new tap top, pop off the top and secure it to the top using the retaining screw. My only concern is the grub screws need to be pretty tight and may cause the spindle threading to be further worn down. For piece of mind, they could have included a few more grub screws.
Plumb-Pak Replacement Tap Top Acrylic pair : A good product for the right taps. Bought these tap tops because one of my tops had broken off but the rest of the tap fittings, although old, were still ok. Two particular problems in my case – first, my ‘old’ spindle was square whereas the spindle fitting in the pack is round; i therefore had to file my old spindle to take the pack fitting; secondly, the instructions in the pack tell you to retain the head screw from your old tap. My old tap did not have such a screw and consequently did not have a screw hole in the top of the spindle. I had to bodge the fitting of the acrylic tap head to the spindle fitting. It seems to have been successful but only time will tell how long it will last. I should say that, although fiddley, i didnt really have any trouble with the grub screws. I think this would be a reasonable product, easily fitted, if the taps to be replaced had round spindles and an existing head screw into the spindle.
